Junior college admissions to begin on June 28

Sale of forms for admissions to junior colleges (Class XI) will start on June 28 and the last date for submission of forms will be July 6. Junior colleges in Pune and neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad will have 63,680 seats for allotment through the computer-assisted centralized admission process (CAP) for standard XI this year, 5,495 seats more than last year’s 58,185 seats. This includes 4,875 seats for bifocal courses

In all, 160 junior colleges are participating in the process, which will begin from June 28 a day after the Maharashtra state board for secondary and higher secondary education (MSBSHSE) distributes the secondary school certificate (SSC, standard X) mark sheets to students.

Of the total seats, there is a 3% reservation for physically challenged students, 3% for sports quota and 2% for arts and culture quota.

This is the 17th year when first-year junior college (FYJC) admissions are being effected through a common process.

Later, the forms will be available for sale at Fergusson College, the main coordinating centre, and 11 designated sub-centres from July 4 to 5 and only at Fergusson College on July 6.

Sub-centres

  • Sundarbai Rathi Girls Junior College, Laxmi Road
  • Vimlabai Garware High School and Junior College, Karve Road
  • Sahu Mandir College, Parvati
  • SV Union High School, Rasta Peth
  • Ness Wadia College of Commerce
  • Genba Sopan Moze Junior College, Maharashtra Housing Society, Yerawada
  • Akutai Kalyani Sadhna Girls Junior College, Hadapsar
  • Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC)
  • Abasaheb Ambedkar College, Aundhgaon
  • Mahatma Phule College, Pimpri Waghere, Chinchwad
  • Fatehchand Jain College, Chinchwad

In all, 47,917 students had applied and got admission during the 2010-11 CAP. Another 1,137 students were later given admission under the allowed-to-keep-term (ATKT) scheme which enables standard X students, who have failed in two of the total six subjects, to go to standard XI on the condition that the remaining two subjects will be cleared in the SSC board’s supplementary exam in October/November.
