Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) 2011-2012

Since 2008, there has been a rise of over 500 in the number of students appearing for the Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET).

In 2010-2011, 3,527 students appeared for GCET as against 3,425 students that registered for the test in 2009-2010.

The numbers are a significant rise from the 3,155 students that registered in 2008-2009, which was again higher than the previous year when 2,935 students appeared for the exam in 2009-2008.

Interest in engineering courses is rising. The main reason for rise in GCET applicants is the increase in students appearing for the test during the second consecutive year to improve their score. Students appear the second time if they have not got admissions to a stream of their choice or if they get admissions to a private engineering college and want to get into Goa Engineering College.

Admissions to medicine, engineering, dentistry, pharmacy and homeopathy courses in Goa take place based on the merit list drawn as per students GCET scores.

The GCET merit list this year is expected to be ready by mid-June.

DTE announced the sale of prospectus for admissions to diploma courses in Goa approved by the All India Council for Technical Education.

The prospectus, inclusive of an application form, will cost students Rs. 310 and can be purchased from May 28 to June 10, 2011 on all working days from 10am to 3pm.

Applications by students will be accepted by DTE at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao from May 30 to June 3 and at the DTE office in Porvorim from May 30 to June 10.
