From this year, single entrance for Journalism course in Delhi University colleges

The journalism department of the Delhi University has decided to make the application process stress free for applicants.Candidates applying for the BA (Hon.) Journalism course offered by Delhi University will have to appear for only a single entrance test from this year. The move comes after the five Delhi University colleges offering the course agreed to throw away their individual tests in favour of a combined one.

Maharaja Agrasen College will organize the first Combined Journalism Entrance Test (C-JET) on June 19. The application procedure, which is completely online, will open on May 20 and go on till June 5. Selection to the course is a two-step process: the C-JET will be followed by an interview held at the respective colleges.

Apart from Maharaj Agrasen, the course is offered by

  • Delhi College of Arts and Commerce
  • Kamala Nehru College
  • Kalindi College
  • Lady Shri Ram College

In all, there are 181 seats up for take hold of. The organizers expect about 5,000 application forms to be sold, up from 3,000 forms sold by all colleges last year.

Another decision that may curtail the number of applications is the eligibility criteria of 70% marks. All applicants have to score at least 70% in Class 12 board exams to appear for the exam and they should also have at least 60% in English.

Candidates can either access individual college websites or to apply for the entrance test. The entrance test will have multiple-choice questions to test general awareness and current affairs on an OMR sheet as well as essay-type questions. These essay-type questions will test writing skills through book and film reviews, critical analysis of contemporary media and commentary on contemporary issues. Candidates need good communication skills and an interest in writing in English to be suitable for this course.

The duration of C-JET will be two-and-a-half hours.
