53,936 students qualify in the engineering stream of Orissa Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) 2011

Thursday the results of the Orissa Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) 2011 were announced. About 85,000 students had appeared for the entrance test in two phases on May 1 and 8.

Out of 56,841 candidates who appeared in the engineering stream, 53,936 qualified. Among the 24,411 medical aspirants, 2,203 students were selected for admission to three governments and one private medical college. Moreover, 6,868 students qualified for MBA while 11,388 for pharmacy, 4,284 for MCA entrance and 3,346 for architecture.

There are over 40,000 engineering seats in 110 colleges, 550 MBBS seats in three government and one private medical college, 180 seats in dental surgery, 960 seats in pharmacy, 4,800 seats in MBA, 3,700 seats in MCA and 220 in architecture.

The date and process of counseling will be decided by the government on Friday. Last year, nearly 20,000 engineering seats remained vacant because of technical snags, confusion in e-counseling, delay in admission and commencement of classes, among other reasons. The state government had to conduct a second JEE and several sessions of counseling to fill up the seats.

Officials said, No admission will be entertained for additional seats or new colleges after June 30.
